Women’s Tennis Set for Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team will compete in the Penn Invitational this weekend. The invitational will run from Friday, Oct. 5 through Saturday, Oct. 6. The Dragons are coming off another successful weekend which was highlighted by Salma Ziouti and Mya Fuentes.
The event, which will feature a series of doubles and singles matches, will take place at the Hecht/Hamlin Tennis Centers beginning Friday and going through Saturday. Drexel will face three local rivals in the event including Temple, Delaware and Penn.
Last weekend, Fuentes and Ziouti had advanced to the championship match of Flight 1 in doubles on Sunday and played Alexa Martinez and Themis Haliou to decide the victor. The Drexel duo pulled out to an 8-1 victory, capping an impressive 4-0 weekend for the pair.
Singles play began on Saturday and continued through the day on Sunday with both Ziouti and Fuentes earning crowns in their respective flights. Ziouti took home the Singles Flight 1 crown, beating out Lexi Denucci while Fuentes took down her third opponent of the invitational, Amelia Lawson, for the Singles Flight 2 title. Both Dragons went 3-0 on the weekend in singles.
