Women's Squash Wins Season Opener Against Dickinson, 9-0

LANCASTER, Pa. - The No. 9 Drexel women's squash team cruised to a 9-0 shutout victory Saturday afternoon in its season opener over No. 18 Dickinson at the Pennsylvania State Classic.
Anna Hughes opened the competition winning three games against Courtney Trail. Hughes won the first two 11-7, 11-9, before dropping the third, 5-11. She was then able to pull out a win in the fourth, 11-6, for the 3-1 victory. Hannah Blatt had an impressive comeback win after being two games down against Lindsay Kuracina in the No. 2 spot. Blatt lost the first two by identical scores of 7-11, before coming back to win the next three, 11-5, 11-3, 11-8. Brooke Herring defeated Domenica Romo, 11-7, 11-6, 11-1 at the No. 3 spot while Stephanie Ryan cruised past Eloise Nimoityn, 11-4, 11-3, 11-5. In the No. 5 spot, Ona Prokes outlasted Aya Sobhy 11-4, 11-3, 11-2 and in the No. 6 spot Fiona Power won all three against Abigail Winerd, 11-1, 11-7, 11-3. Apoorva Addepalli, Emma MacGillivray, Rose Lawrence and Catie Castelli closed out the final four spots with three game victories. Addepalli beat Alanis Peret, 11-8, 11-7, 11-5, in the No. 7 spot, MacGillivray then followed taking down Rachel O'Brien, 11-2, 11-7, 11-3 and Lawrence won against Sarah Murphy, 11-1, 11-8, 11-3.
The Dragons (1-0) return to action tomorrow in a match beginning at noon to close out the season-opening Pennsylvania State Classic.
