Wrestling finishes with a 1-2 record at Northeast Duals

ALBANY – The Drexel wrestling team continued its 2018-19 campaign with three matches at the Northeast Duals in New York. The Dragons fell to Nebraska, 28-9, and Purdue, 25-14, but finished the day strong by beating The Citadel, 41-0.
In their first match of the day, Drexel came up short against Nebraska, 28-9. At 133 pounds, freshman Ty Smith picked up a win over Christian Miller, 16-10, to open the scoring for the Dragons. Two more wins would come at 165 and 197 pounds, with junior Ebed Jarrell defeating #9 Isaiah White, 6-3, and senior Stephen Loiseau beating Eric Schultz, 10-6.
In the Dragons' closest match of the day, they fell to Purdue, 25-14. Drexel started the match slow, losing its first four matchups, but picked up wins in the 157, 165, 197, and 285-pound matchups. In the first of two sets of back-to-back wins, sophomore Evan Barczak took down Austin Nash, 8-2, to get the Dragons on the board. Ebed Jarrell followed suit with a 4-1 win against Cole Wysocki. At 197 pounds, Stephen Loiseau cruised to a 15-0 technical fall over redshirt freshman David Eli. Joey Goodhart rounded out the scoring with a 3-1 overtime decision against fellow senior Jacob Aven.
In Drexel's final match of the day, the Dragons coasted to a 41-0 victory over the Citadel. Freshman Antonio Mininno got Drexel on the board at 125 pounds with a 3-2 decision over Anthony New. Ty Smith picked up a major decision win at 133 pounds against Paddy Kearney, 13-5. Trevor Elfvin pulled off the first of three pins for the Dragons, with his coming in 1:38 against Chon Porter. Ebed Jarrell completed the second pin in 2:25 in the 165-pound matchup against Dazjon Casto, while redshirt freshman Bryan McLaughlin pinned Michael Lopouchanski in 0:35 in the very next matchup at 174 pounds. Joey Goodhart finished the day for Drexel, coming up with an 8-0 major decision in the 285-pound matchup.
The Dragons return to the mat on Sunday, Nov. 18 when they take part in the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
