FINAL BRACKETS
PHILADELPHIA - Seven Drexel wrestlers placed at the 2018 Keystone Classic on Sunday, five of whom came home with a second-place finish. Chandler Olson, Ebed Jarrell, Evan Barczak, Joey Goodhart, and Stephen Loiseau all took second in their respective weight classes. Antonio Mininno took third in the 125-pound competition, while Bryan McLaughlin finished fourth in the 174-pound competition. The Dragons finished second overall with 109.5 total points, behind reigning national champion Penn State.
Sophomore Chandler Olson entered the 133-pound tournament with a first-round bye, automatically placing him in the quarter-finals, in which he beat Penn State's Scott Stossel by decision, 6-4. He would continue his momentum in the semifinal, taking down VMI's Hunter Starner by decision, 9-4. He was then halted in the final as he fell to Penn State freshman Roman Bravo-Young by technical fall, securing a second-place finish.
Sophomore Evan Barczak got off to a hot start in the 157-pound tournament. The New York native started with a win by fall at 4:37 against Penn's Willy Kaiser. In the quarter-finals, Barczak took down Appalachian State's Angel Najar by decision, 4-0. He then came out on top of a close match against Harvard's Hunter Ladnier by decision, 6-5. He ultimately finished second in the 157-pound bracket as he was defeated by Penn State's Jason Nolf by fall at 4:48.
Ebed Jarrell also entered his tournament with a first-round bye. The 165-pound junior started strong in winning by fall at 0:33 against VMI's Jakob Kennedy. Jarrell kept the same intensity going into his next match, taking down Franklin & Marshall's Crew Fullerton by fall at 5:57, putting him through to the semifinal. He won by decision, 5-2, against Rider's Jesse Dellavecchia. In the final match of the tournament, Jarrell lost by technical fall to Penn State junior Vincenzo Joseph, giving him the second-place finish.
Stephen Loiseau did not have a first-round bye entering the 197-pound bracket, but that did not matter as he started his day with a 2-0 decision win over Phil Robilotto of Franklin & Marshall. The senior went on to take down Penn's Greg Bensley by decision, 4-1, securing his spot in the semi-finals. Here he beat Appalachian State's Randall Diabe by decision, 3-1. He came home with a second-place finish as he fell to Penn State's Bo Nickal in the final.
Senior heavyweight Joey Goodhart took down Franklin & Marshall's Steven Marcadante by fall at 0:43 in his first match of the day. He followed that up with another win by fall, this time coming at 2:19, against VMI's Trey Momon. In the semi-finals, Goodhart defeated Appalachian State's Cary Miller by decision, 4-2. He came up short in the final, falling to Penn State's Anthony Cassar by major decision.
True freshman Antonio Mininno came away with a third-place finish in the 125-pound bracket, starting with a 9-7 decision win against Sacred Heart's Ryan Burns. He would lose his next match, placing him in the consolation bracket. He bounced back with a 14-3 major decision win against VMI's Clifton Conway, leading him to a win by decision against Penn State's Justin Lopez, 5-3. In the final match to determine third, Mininno took down Appalachian State's Andy Richard in a close match, 8-6 by decision.
Bryan McLaughlin opened the 174-pound bracket with a 9-7 decision win against Appalachian State's Thomas Flitz. McLaughlin would then be put in the consolation bracket as he lost his next match by decision, 13-6, to VMI's Neal Richards. He would make it all the way to the third-place match, with a 6-4 decision win, a 16-5 major decision against fellow Dragon Jason Hoffman, and a 7-5 decision win. He finished in fourth place after falling to Neal Richards again, this time by major decision.
Also competing for the Dragons were Anthony Walters, Dakota Greene, Dante Mininno, Felix Belga, Jason Hoffman, Julian Flores, Mike Manley, Nick Widmann, Owen Brooks, Trevor Elfvin, and Vincent Foggia.
