LAS VEGAS – The Drexel wrestling team closed day one of two at the 2018 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Friday evening from the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. Over 40 teams and a plethora of ranked wrestlers were in action on the first day of the two-day event. Drexel's Joey Goodhart (285) survived and will compete on Saturday. Ty Smith (133) and Stephen Loiseau (197) each made it to the consolation rounds of eight before seeing their time end at the competition.

Redshirt senior Joey Goodhart (285) defeated Hofstra's Omar Haddad before dropping a bout to Virginia's Quinn Miller in the main heavyweight bracket. Goodhart then won four bouts in the consolation bracket over Campbell's Odgerel Bathkhsig (D, 5-2), Harvard's Evan Callahan (F, 2:12), Northwestern's No. 11 Conan Jennings (D, 2-0) and North Dakota State's Brandon Metz (D, 6-5). He will wrestle tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 1 around noon.

Freshman Ty Smith (133) fell in the round of 32 to No. 17 Dylan Duncan of Illinois by a 9-2 final to move into the consolation bracket. There he defeated Nicholas Hara of North Idaho by a technical fall and John Twomey by a 10-5 decision. He then lost his bout to No. 19 Cam Sykora of North Dakota State in the consolation round of eight.

Senior Stephen Loiseau (197) won his round of 64 bout over Sawyer Root of The Citadel via a technical fall, 15-0 (4:25). He lost in the round of 32 to Tanner Orndorff of Utah Valley to move to the consolation bracket. There he defeated Daniel Allen of Highline and Hunter Gregerson of North Idaho by technical falls before downing No. 16 Jackson Striggow of Michigan by a 4-2 decision. He lost a 15-11 decision to No. 8 Nathan Traxler of Stanford late Friday.
