Men’s Basketball Takes Down Robert Morris on Saturday, 82-69

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball team (4-4) moved back to .500 on the young season with an 82-69 Saturday afternoon, nonconference victory over the Robert Morris Colonials (4-4) from the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Junior Alihan Demir posted a game-high 17 points while tying for a game-high seven rebounds. Senior Troy Harper notched 14 points, four boards and four assists on the day. Graduate student Trevor John poured in 13 points including 3-of-6 from deep with seven rebounds while sophomore James Butler had 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting with seven rebounds. Freshman Camren Wynter recorded 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.
The Dragon dominated from the line, going 20-of-22 as a team. Harper went 7-of-8 while Demir and freshman Matey Juric both went 4-of-4.
Drexel also received 16 bench points from redshirt freshman Tim Perry, Jr. (7), Juric (6) and sophomore Jarvis Doles (3).
Robert Morris got off to a hot start on Saturday as the Colonials took their biggest lead of the game just three-plus minutes into the contest. Robert Morris led 7-0 early before a Drexel free throw and an RMU layup made it 9-1 with 16:51 to play in the first. From there, Drexel collected themselves to even the score with just under nine minutes left in the half, 21-21, as Butler grabbed an offensive board and the putback to tie it up.
RMU regained the edge before the Dragons used an 8-0 to own a 31-29 margin. Drexel stretched that advantage to 42-34 at the break as Demir led all scorers with eight points while Butler had six points and six boards and John notched seven points and five rebounds.
Drexel never let its lead dip below six points in the second half as Robert Morris made the first shot of the period. The Dragons took their largest lead of the day of 19 at 80-61 with 3:36 remaining as they held on for the 13-point victory, 82-69.
As a team, Drexel shot 46.6% (27-of-58) from the floor, 42.1% from three-point range (8-of-19) and 90.9% from the free-throw line (20-of-22). Drexel was +10 in the turnover margin as the squad caused Robert Morris to turn it over 22 times. The Dragons also led rebounds, 43-26, which turned into 14 second-chance points for Drexel.
