Pair of Comeback Wins Fuels No. 9 Women's Squash Against No. 14 GW, 6-3

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 9 Drexel women's squash team used a pair of five-game, comeback wins to outlast No. 14 George Washington Friday night at the Kline & Specter Squash Center, 6-3. The Dragons improved to 6-8 with the victory,
Anna Hughes and Apoorva Addepalli each trailed two games to zero in their respective matches and came back to win in five games. The comeback victories helped power the Dragons to the 6-3 match win. Hughes, playing the No. 1 spot, fell behind Zoe Foo Yuk Han, but came back to win it, 11-13, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10, 13-11. At No. 7, Addepalli outlasted Brooke Feldman in five, despite falling behind, 8-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-4, 11-9.
The Dragons held strong at the top of the lineup, where Ryan Morgan earned her 46th career victory to tie her with Mary Fung-a-Fat for the most in Drexel women's squash history. Morgan swept Engy Elmandouh at No. 2, 16-14, 11-7, 14-12, to tie the record. Hannah Blatt followed with a four-game win over Abby Shonrock at No. 3, 11-9, 11-4, 8-11, 11-6, while Ona Prokes cruised to a sweep of Mary Jo Mahfood at No. 4, 11-5, 11-6, 14-12. Then at No. 8, Emma MacGillivray came up with a big four-game win over Ginger Sands, 11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 13-11.
The Dragons play the second match of their three-match home stand to close the regular season Saturday afternoon against St. Lawrence at the Kline & Specter Squash Center. Matches begin at 2 p.m.
