Golf Stands in 10th Place After Two Rounds in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - The Drexel golf team managed to get out of Philadelphia prior to the storm and took to the links for the first time in 2018. The Dragons are in 10th place after the first 36 holes of the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate. The tournament, which is taking place at Fort Lauderdale Country Club, will conclude with 18 holes tomorrow.
Adam Mistretta is Drexel's leader with a three-over-par 147. The senior shot a one-under-par 71 in the opening round before closing the day with a 76. Alex Butler also got off to a strong start on the first 18 holes. He was tied for second, just one shot behind the leader after the morning round with a 70. In the afternoon, Butler struggled and shot 79. He is at 149 heading into Tuesday.
Connor Schmidt had a 152 on Sunday. He started the day with a 75 and finished it with a 77. Aaron Fricke had a rough 18 holes to start his final season. He struggled to an 84, but the senior rebounded in a big way, firing a two-under-par 70. That tied for the best round of the afternoon session. Freshman Jeffrey Cunningham is two shots in back of Fricke.
Toledo leads the tournament, which has 14 teams participating. The Rockets are at 573, 10 shots better than Austin Peay. UConn carded a 584 and Boston College had a 585. Rounding out the top 10 are Florida Atlantic (588), Old Dominion (591), St. Bonaventure (592), Florida Golf Coast (592), Loyola of Maryland (594) and the Dragons (595).
Davidson, Hartford, Villanova and St. John's are behind the Dragons heading into the final round, which will begin on Tuesday a.m.
