PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel Rowing program officially dedicated the Alleva XVII boat to its fleet Thursday evening at a ceremony held at the Bachelors Barge Club on Boathouse Row.
Drexel University President John Fry, Director of Athletics Dr. Eric Zillmer and Director of Men's and Women's Rowing Paul Savell unveiled the Alleva XVII boat, an eight-oared Empacher. Christina Alleva rowed for the Dragons from 2013-16, while Natalie Alleva has been a member of the Dragons since 2015.
"Adding the Alleva XVII shell to our fleet is a huge boost to the Drexel Rowing program," Savell said. "With the generous gift from the Alleva family along with the continued support of the Drexel Rowing community, we are able to provide athletes with the best equipment. Our athletes are completely confident in their boats and equipment as we continue our ascent onto the national rowing scene."
The Alleva XVII boat made its debut midway through the fall season and quickly became the primary shell for the women's varsity eight. Most recently, the women's varsity eight and the Alleva XVII boat crossed the finished in first place at the Murphy Cup Regatta.
The Dragons, and the Alleva XVII boat, will next be in action at the George Washington Invitational on the Potomac River on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
