PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Shaelyn McCarty scored her fourth goal of the season as the Drexel women's soccer team fell in overtime to Providence on Thursday evening on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium, 2-1.

Drexel came out with intensity from the start, getting shots off from McCarty and Kiera Hennessy in the first two minutes of action. The Dragons used this momentum to pull ahead in the 35th minute when McCarty fired a shot past Providence goal keeper Shelby Hogan.

The Friars, however, were able to even the score with a goal from Hannah McNulty just two minutes before entering the recess.

Goalkeeper Libby Baeza made a crucial late save as the Dragons' defense continued to fight off the Friars offensive pressure in the second half. McCarty led Drexel's offense with two shots in the half while Shea Tomlinson hit one on net in the 83rd minute.

After 91 minutes of action, Providence eventually took the lead with a lofted shot off the foot of McNulty 35-yards out for her second goal of the game and the 2-1 victory.

The Dragons will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 16 when they travel to Princeton for their final non-conference match. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
