PRINCETON, N.J. – The Drexel women's soccer team played No. 25 Princeton to a scoreless draw in double overtime on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium on Sunday evening. With the tie, the Dragons now hold a 3-2-4 overall record.
The first half was scoreless with Drexel out shooting Princeton, 4-2. The Dragons' biggest chance of the half came in the 20th minute with a shot on frame off the foot of Gwyn Godin. Princeton goalkeeper Natalie Gross, however, made the save keeping the score evened at 0-0. The Dragons had two more opportunities after that from Shaelyn McCarty and Lauren Currey but both went wide as the half ended in a tie.
The match remained scoreless throughout the second half with the Tigers out shooting the Dragons this time, 7-4. Baeza made three saves to keep the Dragons alive while McCarty led the offense with three shots including two on goal.
McCarty led all players with three shots in overtime. She had one final opportunity in the 107th minute, but it was turned away by Grossi, her fourth save of the night, for the final 0-0 decision.
Drexel will open conference play on Thursday, Sept. 20 when it hosts James Madison at Vidas Field for a 7 p.m. match.
