PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Morgan Rees scored her first collegiate goal to help propel the Drexel women's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory against Maryland on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field.
The first 45 minutes of regulation were scoreless with Maryland out shooting Drexel, 5-4. The Dragons, however, dominated the second half, only allowing Maryland to get five shots off while attempting 11 of their own.
The game-winning goal did not come until just over three minutes into overtime when Shaelyn McCarty crossed a ball from outside the 18-yard box to find Rees for a one-time volley into the back of the net.
The Dragons out shot the Terps, 18-10. Libby Baeza stopped two shots in goal for Drexel and Maryland's Rachel Egyed turned away nine.
Drexel will return to action when it travels to Saint Joseph's on Thursday, Sept. 6 for a 7 p.m. match.
