Women's Soccer Battles Saint Joseph's to 1-1 Double OT Draw

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Raenah Campbell scored her first goal of the season to help the Drexel women's soccer team to a 1-1 double overtime draw against Saint Joseph's on Thursday evening at Sweeney Field. With the tie, the Dragons now hold a 3-1-3 overall record.
Drexel got off to a strong start with two back-to-back corner kicks from Emma Heckenberg less than two minutes apart before a lightning delay postponed the first half for nearly two hours. Following the delay, both teams traded chances, but were unable to bury a goal, making it 0-0 at the break.
The Dragons got on the board first in the second half with 16:02 remaining in regulation. The play started with freshman Morgan Rees who pressured SJU's back line and caused a turnover outside the 18-yard box. Campbell then collected the loose ball at the top of the box and placed her shot past the keeper into the back of the net, giving the Dragon's a 1-0 lead.
SJU, however, retaliated in the 82nd minute with a goal from Paige Bergman inside the right side of the box into the upper 90 to send the game into overtime, 1-1.
The Hawks got four shots off in 20 minutes of overtime, but Drexel keeper Libby Baeza was up to the challenge, as she turned away the three shots on goal to keep the Dragons in the game.
Baeza made a career-high nine saves in goal for the Dragons while SJU's Grace Bendon did not register a save.
Drexel will return to action next week on Thursday, Sept. 13 when it travels to Providence for a 4 p.m. match.
