ITHICA, N.Y. - No. 8 Drexel women's squash defeated No. 12 Cornell for the first time in program history on Friday evening at Cornell. Freshman Brooke Herring clinched the match in the No. 4 spot to give the Dragons the 5-4 victory.
Key wins from Anna Hughes in the first round of matches followed by a gutsy and determined performance from Ona Prokes in the second round of matches spurred the women on. Captain Fiona Power carried on the momentum winning a hard fought and tense four-game match against Lucy Martin, 13-11,11-8,6-11,11-8. With the Dragons down 3-4, the team relied on solid four-game wins with Hannah Blatt leveling the overall match 4-4 and Herring clinching the match for the Dragons' first win in program history against the Big Red.
Drexel will return home when it hosts Colby for senior day at the Kline & Specter Squash Center. The match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
