Women’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Double Overtime Tie at Elon

ELON, N.C. – The Drexel women's soccer team earned its first point of the CAA campaign with a 1-1 draw in double overtime at Elon.
The Dragons (4-6-3, 0-3-1 CAA) went ahead via an own goal in the 10th minute, but the Phoenix (8-3-2, 2-1-1) promptly bounced back from their mistake, equalizing five minutes later. Kayla Hodges headed in her second goal of the season with the assist going to Hannah Doherty.
Libby Baeza made three saves in the second half to force overtime, where Drexel held on for the important road point. Baeza (3-5-2) made three saves on the day and allowed just the one goal in 110 minutes of action.
Drexel did not get a shot off in the two overtime periods but limited Elon to a pair of off-target attempts in the extra 20 minutes. For the game, the Phoenix out-shot the Dragons 10-7 and owned a 4-2 advantage in shots on target.
Lauren Currey paced Drexel with three shot attempts, including one that tested Elon keeper Katrin Hauksdotter. Natalie Pantalone came off the bench to fire off two shots, and Melissa Lyon and Joanna Seca had one apiece.
The Dragons return home to Vidas Field on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match with Towson that will air on FloSports.
