No. 11 Men’s Squash Shuts Out No. 14 Franklin & Marshall to Start Season

PHILADELPHIA – No. 11 Drexel Men's Squash topped 14th-ranked Franklin & Marshall by a 9-0 margin on Saturday at the Kline & Specter Squash Center. The victory sends the Dragons (1-0) to the winner's final of the Pennsylvania State Classic and a showdown with third-ranked Penn tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Drexel won five of the ladder's nine matches in straight games with newcomers accounting for four of its nine victories over the Diplomats (2-2). The Dragons' freshmen class won matches at the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth positions.
Lucas Rousselet won in four games – 11-5, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7 – over Sanjay Jeeva at the top position. Matias Knudsen reaffirmed his all-American bona fides in his match at the No. 2 slot, an 11-2, 11-1, 11-0 win against Aryan Parekh.
Dylan Kachur needed only three games to win at the third slot, topping Shamseldeen Abbas by an 11-8, 11-7, 11-2 margin. Noel Heaton added another sweep – 11-8, 11-5, 11-7 – over Yannis Senkel in the fourth slot.
Youth was then served in the bottom half of the ladder. Matthew Lucente and José López won their first-career matches in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Lucente prevailed against Boden Polikoff, 11-3, 11-2, 11-3. López rallied from an 11-8 loss in the first game to win three-straight – 12-10, 11-8, 11-7.
Filip Krueger handled Matthew Dukram in the seventh position, winning 11-7, 11-6, 11-5.
In the longest match of the day, Nicko Fehn rallied from a two-set deficit to top Flavio Hinostroz in five games. The freshman trailed 7-11, 11-9, 13-15 after three games but won the next two – 14-12, 11-2 – with his back against the wall.
Gautam Nagpal rounded out the ladder with an 18-16, 10-12, 11-7, 12-10 win against Teddy Eill at the ninth position.
Drexel and Penn vie for the Pennsylvania State Classic crown tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Kline & Specter Squash Center. The Quakers have topped the Dragons in each of the last two years to win the classic. Overall, Drexel is 1-7 all-time against its closest geographical rival.
