Women’s Basketball Closes Preseason WNIT with Loss to Pacific

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's basketball team (2-2) closed out the Preseason WNIT with a third-round consolation loss to the University of the Pacific Tigers (2-1) on Saturday afternoon from the Daskalakis Athletic Center by a final of 58-51.
HIGHLIGHTS
* The Dragons had three scorers in double figures: senior Aubree Brown (11), sophomore Keishana Washington (11) and senior Bailey Greenberg (10).
* Junior Hannah Nihill supplied seven points off the bench.
* Brown also notched four assists on the day to bring her career total to 391. Her 388th assist, her first of the afternoon, put her alone into fourth place all-time on Drexel's assist leaderboard.
* Senior Ana Ferariu and sophomore Maura Hendrixson each earned their first start of the season. Ferariu pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
GAMEPLAY
Drexel had a slight edge at the end of the first quarter, 13-12, after Washington drilled three three-pointers, which tied her career high.
Brown and Greenberg each contributed five points in the second quarter while Washington hit two free throws to lead all scorers at halftime with 11. Pacific's Brooklyn McDavid came alive in the second quarter, hitting 4-of-4 from the floor to put the Tigers up at the break, 28-27.
Pacific started the second half on a 10-2 run to prompt Drexel to call a timeout with 4:56 to play in the third quarter. That came as the Tigers' biggest lead of the day.
Drexel was able to chip away, eventually get the deficit down to two at the end of the third quarter, 43-41.
The Dragons were able to even the score 47-47 with 6:36 to play following a jumper from Nihill but could not get past the hump and take the lead. A Drexel foul followed by a turnover helped Pacific to go back up by four. Drexel was limited to 10 points in the fourth quarter with four from Nihill. Pacific's McDavid added another seven in the fourth and Valerie Higgins scored half of her 12 on the day in the final period. McDavid shot 9-of-13 for a game-high 19 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
* Drexel caused Pacific to turn the ball over 20 times compared to the Dragons' 14 miscues. DU was able to outscore Pacific, 19-14, in points off turnovers.
* Though the Dragons were outrebounded, 41-27, Drexel led offensive rebounds, 9-8, and second-chance points, 13-4.
* Drexel had 11 steals to Pacific's eight which helped lead to the Dragons owning the edge on fastbreak points, 8-4.
* Bench scoring was relatively even with Pacific leading, 15-14.
