Women’s Basketball Pushes Past Davidson in Preseason WNIT, 74-63

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's basketball team (2-0) defeated the Davidson College Wildcats (1-1) on Saturday afternoon in the Dragons' home opener by a final of 74-63. Drexel now heads to DePaul University for the next round in the Preseason WNIT on Monday, Nov. 11.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Bailey Greenberg matched her career high for the second time in two games to begin the season. Greenberg put up 31 points against Davidson behind 12-of-24 from the floor and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Her five made treys also came as a career high.
- With 31 points, Greenberg now has 1,290 for her career as she passed Jasmina Rosseel (2007-11; 1,272) on the all-time scoring list for 13th place.
- Sophomore Keishana Washington scored 18 points in the win on Saturday to go along with four assists.
- Senior Niki Metzel was the third Dragon in double figures with 10 points on 3-of-5 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the foul line. She also tied for a team-high six rebounds.
- Junior Hannah Nihill finished with eight points, seven assists and six rebounds while senior Aubree Brown had five points, five assists and two blocks.
GAMEPLAY
Drexel was led by Washington's nine points in the first quarter while Greenberg and Brown also each chipped in five. The Dragons hit 8-of-14 shots to take a 19-15 after 10 minutes of action.
Early in the second quarter, Drexel used a 12-2 run to take a 33-20 lead with 4:39 to play in the half. The Drexel defense at one point forced four-straight Davidson turnovers.
DU's largest lead came with 1:29 left in the second quarter with Drexel up 15. Davidson closed the gap in the final 90 seconds with the Dragons holding a 39-29 edge at the break. Greenberg led all scorers with 17 points followed by Washington's 13.
Drexel shot 50% in the first half behind 15-of-30 from the floor including 6-of-12 from deep. Greenberg had four of those six treys to tie her career high.
Greenberg added six points in the third and eight more in the fourth to tie her career high for her second-straight game with 31. She hit her fifth three-pointer of the game in the third to set a new career high for treys made.
Metzel scored eight of her 10 points in the second half with four in each quarter.

- Drexel shot 48.3% from the floor (28-of-58), 50.0% from deep (8-of-16) and 62.5% from the free-throw line (10-of-16).
- Drexel notched assists on 20-of-28 made baskets on the day.
- The Dragons outrebounded the Wildcats, 28-27, with Metzel and Washington tying for a game- and team-high six each.
- Drexel forced 20 Davidson turnovers and outscored the Wildcats, 22-11, in points off turnovers.
- Drexel also led points in the paint, 22-18, and second-chance points, 11-9.
- 72 of Drexel's 74 points came from starters with freshman AJ Davis scoring the lone two off the bench for her first collegiate points in the third quarter.
