Women’s Basketball Holds Off Saint Joseph’s for 62-52 Road Win

HIGHLIGHTS
* The win comes as the Dragons' fourth-straight over the Hawks.
* Senior Bailey Greenberg moved into 12th place on the Drexel career scoring list with her fourth point of the afternoon, coming with 5:19 left in the first quarter.
* Greenberg finished with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting including 3-of-6 from three-point range. It came as her third game with at least 10 field goals on the season.
* Following her career performance on Saturday, senior Mariah Leonard made her first collegiate start on Sunday against Saint Joseph's. She scored nine points with two rebounds, a steal and took two charges.
* Junior Hannah Nihill also scored nine points on 3-of-5 from the floor with two three-pointers and three assists.
* Sophomore Maura Hendrixson connected on three treys on five attempts for nine points.
* Senior Aubree Brown totaled a season-high nine assists along with a team-high seven rebounds.
GAMEPLAY
After the Hawks scored the first basket, Drexel went on 15-0 run which saw SJU burn two first-quarter timeouts. In the midst of that run, Greenberg moved into 12th place on the Dragons' all-time points leaderboard with her 1,362nd collegiate point. SJU closed the quarter with a 5-0 run as Drexel held a 15-7 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, Drexel's aggressive defense led to five fouls by the midway point, putting SJU in the bonus for the remaining 4:35. DU was able to put together a 7-0 run with a three-point play from Greenberg, a mid-range jumper from Leonard and an offensive putback from Brown which saw the Dragons go back up by 12 at 27-15 with 1:50 to play. The Hawks hit two treys in the final two minutes including one at the buzzer as Drexel led by 11 at the break, 32-21. Greenberg was up to 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting including 2-of-3 from deep at halftime.
In the third, an 8-0 from the Dragons forced St. Joe's to use their third timeout with 7:21 to play in the quarter. Hendrixson and Nihill both connect on a pair of threes ion the run while Leonard scored the first four points of the half.
Drexel took its largest lead of the game at 44-23 with 6:23 to play in the third. Saint Joseph's fought back and cut into the 21-point advantage by putting together a 18-7 run to end the quarter. Leonard put up seven in the third as the Dragons led 51-41.
After a combined 39 points in the third, the two squads settled down in the fourth, scoring 11 each as Drexel maintained the margin and held on for the 10-point win.
BY THE NUMBERS
* Drexel shot 51.0% (25-of-49) from the field, 47.1% (8-of-17) from three-point range and 57.1% (4-of-7) from the free-throw line. It marked the first time of the year that team shot over 50% from the floor.
* Drexel held Saint Joseph's to 39.6% shooting and 27.8% from deep.
* Following Greensberg's game-high 24 points, three Dragons finished with nine points each (Hendrixson, Leonard, Nihill).
* Drexel forced 16 SJU turnovers and capitalized by outscoring the Hawks in points off miscues, 23-9.
* DU also led points in the paint, 28-22, second-chance points, 10-9, and fast break points, 17-4.
* SJU was lifted by its reserves, outscoring Drexel's bench, 28-13.
* Rebounding was even, 27-27.
