Wynter's 30 Points Lead Drexel Past UNCW

PHILADELPHIA - Camren Wynter poured in 30 points, including Drexel's final eight points of the game, as the Dragons defeated UNCW, 71-66, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Monday night. The win improved Drexel's record to 8-7 overall and 1-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Seahawks lost for the seventh straight time and fell to 5-10 (0-2).
The Dragons led by just one at 65-64 with 3:03 to play after a Marin Linssen lay-up. Drexel answered by holding UNCW without a field goal the rest of the way. Wynter made a jump shot with 2:07 on the clock to increase the lead to three. After a pair of Mike Okauru free throws, Wynter hit another jumper. Jaylen Sims then missed a three-pointer that could have tied it with 45 seconds remaining. Wynter then made two of four free throws in the final 18 seconds to seal the Dragons' first CAA win of the year.
UNCW trailed by just two at halftime, but came out strong in the early minutes of the second half. The Seahawks took a five-point lead with just under 14 minutes remaining after two Imajae Dodd buckets. Drexel called time and responded with eight straight points. Zach Walton started the run with a three-point play and Matey Juric nailed a three-pointer during that stretch.
Wynter was 11-for-19 from the field and also had five boards, three assists and three steals. Walton finished with 14 points, six boards, three steals and three assists. Butler picked up eight points and led everyone with 11 rebounds. Drexel shot 47 percent from the floor and held UNCW to just one three-pointer in six attempts. The Seahawks came into the game making more than eight three-pointers per game.
Linssen led UNCW with 15 points before fouling out in the closing minutes. Okauru added 14, while Shykeim Phillips scored 12.
Drexel concludes its three-game homestand on Friday night against Delaware. Tip-off at the DAC is at 7 p.m.
