No. 8 Women’s Squash Slips Against No. 5 Yale

PHILADELPHIA – Eighth-ranked Drexel Women's Squash dropped a 6-3 match to No. 5 Yale at the Kline & Specter Squash Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (4-0) jumped ahead 2-0 after the first two matches. Elisabeth Ross topped Hannah Blatt in three games (11-5, 11-4, 11-5) at the No. 3 position to start the day, and Gigi Yeung followed with a comeback in the sixth slot.

Ciara Richards led Yeung two games to one (11-9, 8-11, 12-10) but could not put her away as Yeung won the final two games 12-10 and 11-7.

Ona Prokes and Alina Bushma worked to tie the team score with a pair of five-game victories. In the No. 7 match, Prokes come back from a 2-0 hole to win 8-11, 3-11, 11-4, 11-8, 13-11. Alina Bushma and Helen Teegan split the first four games of the No. 2 match (6-11, 14-12, 9-11, 11-4) before Bushma won 11-2 in the fifth to notch her sixth win in six tries this season.

Yale won the next three to clinch the match against the Dragons (4-3) Ainsley Weber topped Lara Varma in four games in the No. 9 match, Brianna Jefferson bested Anna Hughes in four games in the No. 4 slot, and Alexis Lazor clinched the win with a three-game victory over Stephanie Ryan in the eighth slot.

Brooke Herring provided the final Dragon victory of the match with an 11-9, 6-11, 3-11, 11-9, 11-7 win over Aishwarya Battacharya in the fifth slot.

Karina Tyma suffered her first defeat of the season in the No. 1 match. She dropped a five-gamer to Lucy Beecroft to conclude the day.

Drexel resumes competition on Jan. 9 by hosting No. 2 Trinity.
