No. 11 Men’s Squash Rallies Past No. 6 Rochester

PHILADELPHIA – The 11th-ranked Drexel men's squash team showcased perseverance in a 5-4 win over No. 6 Rochester at the Kline & Specter Squash Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Dragons (5-2) overcame a late 4-3 deficit for their second win over a top-10 opponent in as many days. Gautam Nagpal clinched the match on the final ball of his fourth game after rallying from an 11-9 loss in the opener. He took the next two games 11-9 and 12-10 but found himself down 10-8 in the fourth. With his back against the wall, Nagpal won five of the last six points to take the deciding game, 13-11.
Drexel jumped ahead 2-0 after sweeps from Matias Knudsen and Filip Krueger. Knudsen downed Matthew Toh in the No. 2 match – 11-3, 11-7, 11-4. Krueger topped Thijs Van der Pluijm by an 11-8, 11-9, 15-13 margin.
Following a Noel Heaton loss to Cesar Segundo in the fourth slot, José López gave the Dragons a 3-1 edge with five-game win against Sergio Martin in the No. 7 match. López and Martin traded the first four games (11-13, 11-7, 8-11, 11-4) with the freshman from San Salvador prevailing 11-8 in the fifth.
The Yellowjackets (1-2) won the next three to pull ahead 4-3. Marcus Sim Wei bested Matthew Lucente in the No. 5 match, Ashley Davies won in five games over Lucas Rousselet in the top match, and Alexander Riedelsheimer outlasted Nicko Fehn in a five-gamer at the No. 9 position.
Dylan Kachur leveled the score with a win over Abdelrahman Lasheen in the fourth position. Kachur overcame a second-game loss to win 11-4, 6-11, 11-5, 11-4.
The Dragons return to action on Jan. 9 against No. 2 Trinity.
