11 Dragons Set for Squash Individual Championships this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Squash is set to send five men and five women into the CSA Individual Championships this weekend at George Washington in Providence, R.I. on March 1-3. Matias Knudsen will be competing in the Pool division while Bransten Ming, Dylan Kachur, Luke Willemse, Filip Krueger and Noel Heaton will represent the No. 10 men's team in the Molloy Cup. Hannah Blatt, Anna Hughes, Brooke Herring, Ona Prokes and Stephanie Ryan will represent the No. 7 women's squad in the Holleran Cup.
Knudsen will be competing in the A Division while the rest of the Dragons will be competing in their respective B Division cups. The winner of each regional B Division cup will earn All-American status along with the 16 qualifiers to each A cup.
Last Time Out
Then-No. 8 Drexel women's squash defeated then-No. 6 Penn in the Howe Cup College Association Nation Championship consolation match, 6-3. This win marked the Dragons' first win over Penn in the women's program and ranks them No. 7 in the nation, the highest in program history.
Then-No. 13 men's squash took down then-No. 12 Navy and No. 9 Virginia before its winning streak came to an end as No. 15 George Washington defeated Drexel, 6-3, in the 2019 College Men's Team National Championships Hoehn Cup (B Division) Finals last Sunday.
Men at National Championships
No. 1 seed Matias Knudsen will open play at 12:20 p.m. against No. 2 seed Harvard's Victor Crouin. Bransten Ming and Dylan Kachur both begin play Friday at 9:50 a.m. in the Molloy Cup West Division. Ming will verse Fordham's William Douglass while Kachur will play against Bate's Omar Attia. Noel Heaton and Filip Krueger will both compete in the South Division. Heaton will play Yale's Harrison Gill Friday at 9 a.m. and Krueger will follow with a 9:50 a.m. match against MIT's Aman Sanger. Luke Willemse will have the Dragons final match of the first round at 12:20 p.m. in the North Division against George Washington's Inaki de Larrauri.
Women at National Championships
Hannah Blatt will open play Friday at 9:40 a.m. in the Holleran West Division against Hamilton's Charlotte Zonis. Anna Hughes and Stephanie Ryan will both compete in the East Division. Ryan will play first at 11:40 a.m. against Trinity's Nadiia Usenko while Hughes will compete against Brown's Scarlett Bergam at 12:20 p.m. Brooke Herring will go against Weleyan's Aditi Prasad while Ona Prokes verses Penn's Lindsay Stanley in the South Division at 1 p.m.
Individual Championships Schedule
Friday will feature the Round of 16 and quarterfinal matches, following by the semifinals Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. Finals will be played Sunday morning.
