Schmidt Named CAA Golfer of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. - Drexel Connor Schmidt has been named this week's Colonial Athletic Association Golfer of the Week. Schmidt earned medalist honors for the second time in his last three tournaments and led the Dragons to a victory at the Wildcat Spring Invitational at White Manor Country Club.

Schmidt started the tournament on Monday with a 63 on the par-71 course. That score tied Sean O'Hair's course record and also tied the Drexel school record. He had nine birdies on the day. On Tuesday, Schmidt followed that with a 3-under 68 in the second round to finish at 11-under par. That broke the program's 36-hole record that Schmidt set back in 2016. Schmidt's effort helped Drexel capture the team title, with the Dragons' 17-under effort (272-279 – 551) setting a program record as well.

Schmidt, a native of Venentia, Pa., has now shot par or better in seven straight rounds and in 11 of his last 12. He now has eight rounds in the 60s this academic year. Schmidt has two outright wins this year and finished in a tie for first in another before falling in a one-hole playoff.
