Field Hockey Suffers Set Back at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Drexel University field hockey team (1-5) suffered a road loss to the Monmouth University Hawks (5-2) by a final of 5-0 on Friday afternoon from So Sweet A Cat Field in West Long Branch, N.J.
Monmouth went up early with goals in the 10th and 11th minutes of action which had Drexel trying to come from behind for the rest of the afternoon.
The Hawks struck first when Yasmin Pratt converted her sixth of the season on an assist from Ireen Frenken. Just about a minute later, Monmouth took a 2-0 advantage on Aylin Aufenacker's fourth of the year.
The Hawks added their third of the day early in the second quarter to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Dragons held the Hawks scoreless in the third quarter, limiting Monmouth to just one shot. Drexel had four corner opportunities, its most of any quarter of the game, but could not cut into the deficit.
In the fourth quarter, Monmouth scored goals in back to back minutes, both off the stick of Colleen Craven to make it 5-0 with just over 10 minutes to play.
Redshirt sophomore Alexis Sokach (L, 1-2) started in the cage for the Dragons, playing the opening 48:45 minutes before being relieved by freshman Megan Hadfield for the remainder of regulation.
Monmouth led shots, 16-12, and shots on goal, 11-3, while the Dragons held a large edge on corners, 10-4. Sophomore Avery Powell took a team-high three shots while sophomore Puk Thewessen and junior Chandler McFeeley each had two.
