Barczak Takes Fifth at Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Evan Barczak took fifth place at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic, hosted by Millersville University. Competing unattached, Barczak won five times to lead a contingent of nine Dragons.

The junior from Central Valley, N.Y. opened the day with a 10-0 major decision victory over Greensboro's Tyron Dudley before encountering a bump in the road in the round of 16.

Now in the consolation bracket, Barczak rallied with four wins to reach the fifth-place match. He scored a 12-5 decision over Alec English of George Mason before pinning Rider's George Worthy in just 62 seconds. A medical forfeit vaulted Barczak into the consolation semifinals, where he topped Benny Baker via 6-0 decision.

Barczak led Franklin & Marshall's Emmett LiCastri, 4-2, in the second period of the fifth-place bout when LiCastri withdrew from the match due to injury.

Dante Mininno, Julian Flores and Nick Widmann all came one win away from placing at the Classic. All three fell in the consolation semifinals.
