No. 5 Women’s Squash Glides Past No. 14 Middlebury, 8-1

PHILADELPHIA – The fifth-ranked Drexel women's squash team tallied seven sweeps in an 8-1 win over No. 14 Middlebury at the Kline & Specter Squash Center on Sunday.

Karina Tyma, Hannah Blatt, Anna Hughes, Brooke Herring, Ona Prokes, Stephanie Ryan and Hatti Specter all won their respective matches in three games as the Dragons improve to 5-4 overall.

Tyma dropped Ideal Dowling – 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 – in the top-seeded flight for her sixth win on the season. Tyma is tied with fellow first-year Dragon Alina Bushma for the most wins on the team.

Blatt used three identical 11-4 scores to handle Virginia Schaus in the No. 2 position. Hughes added an 11-5, 11-7, 11-4 win against Gwen Davis in the No. 3 match.

Herring picked up her fourth win of the year with an 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 result over Natalie Madden in the fourth position. Prokes topped Emily Beinkampen by 11-8, 11-6 and 11-3 scores in the No. 5-seeded match.

Ryan prevailed over Natasha Lowitt in the sixth position – 11-9, 11-6, 11-6. She too earned her fourth win of the campaign.

Specter topped Mira Chugh – 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 – in the No. 9 position. It was the first time playing in the scoring nine for freshman from Gladwyne, Pa.

Katerina Cummings and Anne Glassie went the distance in the eighth-seeded match. Cummings fell behind with an 11-8 loss in the first game but answered with an 11-9 victory. Glassie took the third game, 11-3, but Cummings won the next two by 11-4 and 11-7 margins.

The Dragons wrap up a string of three matches at home next Sunday against No. 9 Cornell at 11 a.m.
