BOSTON – Northeastern went on an 18-0 run early in the game and went on to an 85-52 victory over Drexel at Matthews Arena on Thursday night. The loss snapped a three-game Drexel win streak.
It wasn't Drexel's night from the start on Thursday. The Dragons opened the scoring with a Sam Green three-pointer, but the Huskies (11-9, 5-3) answered with 18 straight points, 12 of those by Jordan Roland. The senior finished the first half with 17 of his game-time 26 points. The Northeastern defense held Drexel (12-9, 5-3) to just five field goals in the opening half and forced 13 Drexel turnovers.
James Butler led the Dragons with 16 points and eight rebounds. Coletrane Washington came off the bench to score 11 points, which included three three-pointers. They were the only Dragons in double figures.
Roland was 10-for-20 and showed why he is the leading scorer in the CAA. He had four three-pointers and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. The Huskies finished the night shooting 55 percent from the floor and were 9-for-17 from long range. Drexel came into the game tops in the CAA in three-point defense. Bolden Brace added 17 points and was 7-for-8 shooting as the Huskies defeated the Dragons in Matthews Arena for the eighth straight time.
The Dragons will head to Hempstead in the morning and look to get back in the win column on Saturday at Hofstra.
