No. 7 Women’s Squash Falls to No. 2 Princeton in Howe Cup Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The seventh-seeded Drexel women's squash team dropped its Howe Cup first round matchup to No. 2 seed Princeton, 8-1, on Friday afternoon.

Alina Bushma provided the Dragons (11-7) their lone point of the day with a three-game sweep at the No. 2 position. She handed Raneem El Torky an 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 loss to improve to 13-2 on the season.

The sophomore from Kyiv, Ukraine moves into a five-way tie for the sixth-most victories in a single season in program history. Bushma is one win away from fourth place and two victories shy of second.

Ona Prokes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the No. 5 match behind a 12-10 win in the opener, but Andrea Toth took the next three games for the 10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8 victory.

Anna Hughes pushed Emme Leonard to four games with a resilient 11-6 win in the third. Leonard took the first two, 12-10, 11-8, and closed out with an 11-8 victory in the fourth game.

Stephanie Ryan and Emily Rose split the first two games of the No. 8 match. Ryan dropped the opener, 11-3, but rallied for a 12-10 win in the second. Rose won the next two – 11-1, 11-4.

Drexel faces No. 6 Stanford in the consolation semifinals tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
