No. 8 Women’s Squash Opens MASC Championships with Wins over No. 14 GW, No. 23 Dickinson

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The eighth-ranked Drexel women's squash team started play at the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships with an 8-1 win over No. 14 George Washington and a 9-0 sweep of No. 23 Dickinson. The Dragons (9-6) made short work of the Colonials (5-13), winning seven of the nine matches in straight games, and did not drop a game against the Red Devils (5-10).
Six Dragons – Hannah Blatt, Anna Hughes, Ona Prokes, Brooke Herring, Katerina Cummings and Emma MacGillivray – won twice on the day.

Alina Bushma improved to 10-2 in her debut season with an 11-7, 11-2, 11-6 win over Engy Elmandouh in the second-seeded flight. Bushma's 10 victories are the most on the team.
Blatt picked up her 31st-career victory with an 11-5, 11-5, 11-7 result against Emma Tryon in the No. 3 match. Hughes inched closer to sixth place on the all-time win list with an 11-3, 11-5, 12-10 sweep of Nikki Pang in the fourth-seeded match.
Prokes matched Blatt with the 31st victory of her career after she topped Zuha Nazir (11-8, 11-8, 11-4) in the No. 5 flight.
Herring survived a scare in the first game for a 7-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 win against Arunachlam Vedikammeyamai in the sixth-seeded match.
Stephanie Ryan swept Anna Moscovici by an 11-3, 11-7, 11-7 score in the No. 7 match. Cummings added an 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 result against Claire Foley in the eighth-seeded flight. MacGillivray rounded out the ladder with an 11-5, 11-2, 11-2 win against Grace Stevenson.

The Dragons authored eight sweeps and received one victory by default in their win over the Red Devils in Friday's nightcap.
Competing in the top position, Blatt topped Eloise Nimoityn by 11-0, 11-2 and 11-1 scores. Hughes won 11-3, 11-1, 11-4 against Aya Sobhy in the No. 2 match.
Ciara Richards improved to 3-0 in the No. 3 position with an 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 triumph over Doxey Loupassi. Prokes added an 11-3, 11-4, 11-2 sweep of Jaime-Leigh Edghill in the fourth-seeded flight.
Herring collected her second win of the night by dispatching Rachel O'Brien – 11-3, 11-0, 11-0.
Hatti Specter topped Sarah Wojtczak (11-4, 11-1, 11-3) in the No. 7 flight. Rebecca Low won 11-5, 11-4, 11-1 against Katelynn Young in the eighth position, and MacGillivray won by default in the No. 9 match.
The Dragons return to action against No. 18 Franklin & Marshall tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. before wrapping up the Championships against 10th-ranked Virginia at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
