No. 6 Men’s Squash Wins Third-Place Match over No. 12 George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Matthew Lucente's win in the final match of the day gave the sixth-ranked Drexel men's squash team a 5-4 win over No. 12 George Washington in the third-place match of the Mid-Atlantic Squash Championships.
The Dragons (10-6) and Colonials (9-10) split the first four matches of the day, setting up a match-clinching sweep from Lucente in the No. 3 flight. The freshman won handily in the first game, 11-1, before closer 11-9 and 12-10 triumphs.
The heart of the ladder carried the day for the Drexel. The Dragons won matches 2-6.
Dylan Kachur swept Jamie Oakley (11-5, 11-9, 11-8) in the No. 2 flight. Noel Heaton added an 11-4, 12-10, 13-11 sweep of Karim Thabet in the fourth match.
José López dispatched David Varela in three games (11-2, 11-6, 11-5) in the No. 5 match. Fellow freshman Gautam Nagpal also won in three, 17-15, 12-10, 11-6, in the sixth-ranked flight.
The Dragons await the draws of the College Squash Association Team Championships, which run from Feb. 27 to March 1 in Boston.
