Women’s Rowing Announces 2020-21 Incoming Class

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel University Women's Rowing Head Coach Paul Savell announced the signing of 13 student-athletes to join the program in 2020-21.
Bella Bostrom
Knoxville, Tenn. / Maryville High School
Bostrom's greatest rowing achievement was when she placed first in the women's eight and second in the women's four at the U17 Nationals in 2018. She chose Drexel because she "instantly felt a connection to the team, school and city" and she "fell in love with the idea of being a part of Philadelphia's iconic rowing culture."
Haley Bramante
Somers Point, N.J. / Holy Spirit High School
Bramante's rowing highlight was when she placed second in the women's four at the National Scholastic Championships. When she is not rowing, she loves to surf and swim, having lived just 10 minutes away from the beach. Regarding her college choice, Bramante said, "Drexel is a school that is able to open up so many amazing opportunities for my education as well as my rowing career."
Rachel Civan
Blue Bell, Pa. / Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy
The highlight of Civan's rowing career so far has been racing at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. She chose University City as the next spot for her education because she "loves boathouse row and wanted to stay in Philadelphia."
Maddie Depommier
Springfield, Pa. / Merion Mercy Academy
Depommier's greatest rowing achievement came when she earned a silver at the City Championships. She is dual citizen between the United States and Canada. When she took her first visit to Drexel, she said she "immediately felt the love and team atmosphere," adding that the Schuylkill River has been her home for the last four years. "There was no question in my mind when I decided to commit to Drexel," said Depommier. "I fell in love with the school, the excitement of the city and most importantly, the support I felt from the coaches and other girls."
Kayla Driscoll
Brigantine, N.J. / Holy Spirit High School
Driscoll's greatest rowing achievement came when she placed second at the SRAA Nationals in the varsity four. When not rowing, she enjoys going to the beach, surfing and swimming. Regarding her college choice, she "felt comfortable at Drexel and the school had what [she] wanted both academically and athletically."
Rita Keefer
Orangevale, Calif. / Sacramento Waldorf School
Keefer's greatest rowing achievement came when her junior varsity eight placed first at the Southwest Regional Championship. She enjoys cooking, hiking and skiing. She picked Drexel because she "knew that being in a place where [she is] able to explore [her] career while being surrounded by such a strong a supportive team would be the best place for [her] to grow as a person, and at the same time, be the happiest version of [herself]."
Mollie Knoff
Brigantine, N.J. / Holy Spirit High School
Knoff credits her silver medal finish in the varsity four at the SRAA National Championships as her greatest rowing achievement. An avid surfer, she said that Drexel "felt like [a] home away from home."
Rachel Kolen
Deptford, N.J. / Bishop Eustace Preparatory School
Kolen's greatest rowing achievement was a second-place finish at the 2018 Philadelphia City Championships in the girl's lightweight four, which qualified her team for USRowing Youth Nationals in Sacramento, Calif. A Texas native, she "decided to commit to Drexel because of the people." She added that "everyone [she] met was so kind, welcoming and genuine," which were the most important things to her for choosing a school.
Grace Ragland
Palm City, Fla. / Martin County High School
Ragland's greatest rowing achievement was when she made it to 'A' finals at the 2019 Youth Nationals in Sarasota, missing third place by just 0.08 seconds. When she is not rowing, she enjoys spending time with friends at the beach. "I decided to commit to Drexel because I loved how everyone, from the coaches to the rowers, had the same energy and mindset to achieve a common goal," Ragland said. "I also loved how welcoming everybody was; it made me feel like a part of the team already."
Julianna Rogers
Philadelphia, Pa. / Science Leadership Academy at Beeber
Roger's rowing highlight was when she was awarded the Mike Mirabella Scholarship to row with Penn AC. She said that "Drexel University means family to me." When she visited, she was "met with an overwhelming amount of support" and that was she "knew Drexel would be [her] home for the next five years and beyond." She also enjoys dancing and baking.
Chloe Speciale
Annapolis, Md. / The Key School
Speciale's greatest rowing achievements to date are racing at the 2017 and 2018 Head of the Charles Regatta. She decided to commit to Drexel because of "the city, the team and the amazing academics and co-op opportunity." Speciale is also a black belt in Taekwondo.
Alex Tingley
Haddon Township, N.J. / Haddon Township High School
Tingley's greatest rowing achievement was when she medaled in the varsity quad at Stotesbury and the SRAA Nationals. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing the flute and reading. She "chose to commit to Drexel because [she] could really see [herself] spending the next few years of [her] life there." She added that "Drexel has the perfect combination of being both a student and an athlete."
Olivia Zwickle
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs High School
She earned back-to-back 12th-place finishes at the Head of the Charles Regatta in the junior women's coxed quad and first and third place at Stotesbury Cup Regatta, which she credits as her greatest rowing achievements. She chose Drexel because she "used to live close to Philadelphia and [she] feels comfortable being back there." She remarked on the university's co-op system and five-year dual degree in education. A black belt in Taekwondo, she also said that rowing out of Boathouse Row on the Schuylkill River has been a dream of hers.
