Wynter and Walton Lead Dragons Past William & Mary

PHILADELPHIA – Zach Walton scored a season-high 20 points and Camren Wynter had a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists as Drexel defeated William & Mary, 82-58, on Saturday at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Drexel broke open a close game with a 17-2 run midway through the second half. Walton had seven of those points including a breakaway dunk with 7:47 to play to cap the run. The Dragons shot a blistering 63 percent in the second half (19-for-30), while holding the Tribe to just 26 points in the half.
Walton had one of his best games in a Drexel uniform. The graduate student was 8-for-10 from the floor and sank four 3-pointers. Wynter picked up the third double-double of his career and committed just one turnover in 34 minutes. He had an outstanding first half, scoring 13 of his 19 points and handing out six assists. Wynter moved past John Siorek into seventh place on Drexel's career assist list.
James Butler and T.J. Bickerstaff each scored 12 points for Drexel. Butler picked up a game-high eight rebounds and made six of his eight field goal attempts. Bickerstaff was 5-for-7 and had two thunderous dunks, including one on an alley-oop from Wynter.
The Dragons finished the contest shooting 61 percent, which was their best shooting night of the season. They made seven of their 17 three-point attempts and handed out a season-best 19 assists.
The Tribe (3-6, 1-3 CAA) was led by Luke Loewe, who scored 16 points. Yuri Covington was 3-for-3 from deep and had 15 points. Quinn Blair chipped in with 13. William & Mary turned the ball over 14 times, which led to 20 Drexel points, including 10 in the first 10 minutes of the game. Those points came during Drexel's first 17-2 run of the game and the Dragons took a lead they would not relinquish.
The two teams will tip-off once again tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the DAC.
