WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Cam Wynter and James Butler combined for 40 points as Drexel picked up a road victory at William & Mary at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg on Saturday, 79-64. The Dragons shot 68 percent in the second half as they improved to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in CAA play. The Tribe fell to 4-7 (2-4).
Drexel held a slim two-point lead early in the second half after the Tribe's Yuri Covington scored on a driving lay-up to make it 37-35. However, Drexel responded with a 9-2 run to take a nine-point lead and the Tribe wasn't able to get closer than seven points the rest of the way. Drexel's defense held William & Mary to jut 33 percent shooting in the second half. On the other end, the Dragons were 15-for-22 shooting and missed just two of their two-point attempts.
Butler led the way with 21 points. The graduate student was 7-for-8 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the line. Wynter made eight of his 12 shots on his way to a 19-point performance. He contributed four assists, and is now tied with Bryant Coursey for sixth on the Drexel career assist list. Mate Okros had his second straight double-figures scoring night with 12 points. T.J. Bickerstaff chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds, while Zach Walton also scored eight points.
Luke Loewe led the Tribe with 15 points. Quinn Blair added 12 points and Connor Kochera was limited to 11 points. He had 26 in the last meeting between the two schools.
It was the third-straight meeting between the two teams. Drexel was scheduled to play Elon this weekend, and the Tribe was supposed to play the College of Charleston, but both series were postponed.
Drexel is back on the court next weekend in Philadelphia. The Dragons host Northeastern in CAA games on both Saturday and Sunday.
