Dragons Fall In Overtime to UNCW

PHILADELPHIA – Lauren Currey and Delaney Lappin scored first half goals, but the Drexel women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 Colonial Athletic Association match in overtime to the UNCW Seahawks on Thursday afternoon.
The Dragons got the scoring started in the 22nd minute when Melissa Lyon sent a ball in from the right side. The serve was tapped from the far side of the box by Lappin before Currey drove her first goal of the season into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Just more than two minutes later, Lappin took a long lead pass from Lily Dunbar and finished on her own, sending the ball past the UNCW keeper for a 2-0 Dragons' edge.
The Seahawks responded with a tally just before the half hour mark and drew level early after halftime. Drexel had chances in the second half with 10 shots, five on net, but couldn't take the lead. UNCW ended the contest late in the first overtime period, scoring from the middle the box off a free kick from 30 yards out.
The Dragons return to Vidas Field on Sunday, October 17 when they host Delaware for Alumni Day. Opening tap is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
