PHILADELPHIA – A dramatic goal in the 89th minute allowed the Drexel women's soccer team to forge a 1-1 draw against the Delaware Blue Hens in a Colonial Athletic Association match on Alumnae Day on Sunday afternoon.
At halftime, Cam and Sandy Meikle presented the La Foundation Scholarship to Lily Dunbar for exemplifying the traits of Laura Meikle-Koch, the namesake of the LMK Award. Drexel also honored last year's winner, Rory Klingensmith.
Trailing 1-0 following a goal that ricocheted in from UD in the 64th minute, the Dragons continued to apply pressure up to the final whistle. With just less than two minutes remaining, Drexel won a free kick off a foul. Dunbar served the ball into the box where it bounced around with neither team claiming control. Eventually, the ball came loose in front of the goal where Annalena O'Reilly was able to slide to it and push the ball across the line to knot the score.
For the match, the Dragons held an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Drexel is back in action on Thursday, October 21 when it hosts No. 12/6 Hofstra. Opening tap from Vidas Field is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
