Dragons Finish Bahamas Tournament With a Loss to Jacksonville State

NASSAU, Bahamas - The Drexel men's basketball team fell to Jacksonville State in the fifth place game at the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship on Wednesday afternoon, 72-64. Drexel will return to Philadelphia with a 3-3 overall record. James Butler and Melik Martin each had 14 points to lead the Dragons.
Drexel led at intermission by three points, but Jacksonville took the lead for good early in the second half as the Gamecocks scored the first eight points coming out of the locker room. The Gamecocks (2-3) made six of their nine 3-point attempts in the second half as they pulled away down the stretch. Jalen Gibbs had four straight 3-pointers as Jacksonville State took a 58-51 lead. After five straight Drexel points, the Gamecocks hit back-to-back threes to extend the lead.
Demaree King and Gibbs each had 16 points to lead the Gamecocks. The opponent from Alabama outrebounded the Dragons, 33-25, and had 10 steals on the defensive end. Butler led Drexel with eight rebounds and the graduate student was 6-for-9 from the floor. Camren Wynter added nine points, five rebounds and four assists.
Drexel will head back to the United States in the morning and the student-athletes will enjoy a few days off before returning to campus. The Dragons will face Fairleigh Dickinson at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Thursday, Dec. 2.
