Dragons Give Nebraska All It Can Handle In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Drexel women's basketball team gave the Nebraska Cornhuskers all they could handle, holding Nebraska to a season-low 65 points, but the Dragons fell 65-53 in The Dana on Mission Bay Holiday Tournament on Friday afternoon.

- Hannah Nihill led Drexel with a season-high 19 points. She also had five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- Keishana Washington added 13 points and four assists.
- Kate Connolly had 11 points and a career-best five steals in the game.
- Tessa Brugler led the Dragons with 10 rebounds. It was the fourth time this season she pulled in 10 or more boards.
- Drexel committed just two turnovers in the contest, an NCAA single game season low for a team across all divisions thusfar in 2021-22.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Drexel got off to a hot start, opening an early 8-0 lead heading into the initial media timeout. The Huskers found their legs and knotted the score at 8-8 in a matter of two minutes. DU battled back thanks to hot shooting from Nihill, who scored 13 in the first quarter, as the Dragons led 15-11 after 10 minutes.
- DU extended its lead through the initial stoppage of the second period, going up 23-17, but a 14-0 run for Nebraska to end the half saw Drexel trail 31-23 at intermission.
- The Dragons chipped into the lead in the opening stages of the third quarter, slicing the advantage to 33-29 just less than four minutes into the frame. The Huskers countered with a 9-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 42-29.
- Undeterred, Drexel continued to hang around as seven points in the third quarter, including a late layup and trey from Connolly pulled the deficit back to single digits at 45-36.
