Balanced Scoring, Bench Lead Dragons Past Fresno State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – A balanced scoring attack and solid bench play helped the Drexel women's basketball team end its California trip on a good note with a 63-46 win against the Fresno State Bulldogs in the consolation game of The Dana on Mission Bay Holiday Tournament.

BY THE NUMBERS
- Despite missing a chunk of the first half with foul trouble, Tessa Brugler recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
- Hannah Nihill led the way for the Dragons, scoring 15 points and dishing three assists. She now has 386 helpers in her career, moving into the sixth place all-time for Drexel.
- Keishana Washington had her third consecutive game with 13 points. She also added a team-high seven assists.
- The bench was a factor for the Dragons, scoring 10 points and pulling in eight boards. Brianne Borcky and Jasmine Valentine led the reserves with five points and two rebounds apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Drexel grabbed an early lead, pushing the ball into the post as Brugler scored five points before the initial media timeout. She also had an impact on the defensive end with three boards and two blocks in the opening 10 minutes.
- After establishing the post, the outside game came alive as Washington posted five of her own in the frame with the Dragons going up 14-11 at the end of the period.
- In the second stanza, DU used the offensive glass to its advantage, pulling in five o-boards to help build a 26-20 lead with 4:43 left, on its way to a 31-27 halftime edge.
- Opening the third, Drexel pushed out to its largest lead to that point, hitting three of its first four shots, holding the Bulldogs to 1-for-5, as the Dragons opened a 39-29 advantage at the 7:09 mark. DU expanded the lead as the period went on, eventually holding a 51-39 advantage with 10 minutes left.
- The Dragons closed the game with solid defense and continued to extend the lead throughout the fourth quarter.
