PHILADELPHIA – Drexel softball head coach Katie Jansson announced Friday morning the addition of Brielle Pietrafesa as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2022 season.
"I am so excited to welcome Brielle to our program," Jansson said. "She had a decorated career at Hofstra, playing under a hall of fame coaching staff. She got her first coaching experience at Villanova, where she was able to learn under one of the most respected coaches in our sport and her knowledge of our conference will be extremely valuable to our program. Her passion and knowledge of the game will help us achieve our goal of bringing the CAA Championship back to Philly."
Pietrafesa comes to the program after working for a year at Penn Hospital as a Patient Service Associate. She also was responsible for coaching the U18 South Jersey Mystics Softball team in Westhampton, N.J. During the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Pietrafesa worked as a volunteer assistant coach with the Villanova softball team where her main role was to provide extra help for athletes at practice, in-game and in the classroom.
Pietrafesa, a graduate of Hofstra University in 2018, was a reliable player on the Pride's softball team. She played in 198 games and started in 195 appearances, owning a batting average of .306 and a slugging percentage of .548. Pietrafesa also collected many accolades throughout her career, including Philadelphia Inquirer Softball Player of the Year in 2014, CAA All-Rookie team in 2015. In 2016, she was named to the All-CAA first team and was a third-team NFCA All-Northeast Region selection. In her junior and senior year of playing for Hofstra, Pietrafesa was named to the All-CAA second team twice and named as an NFCA All-Northeast Region first team recipient. In the classroom, she was named as an Academic All-American in 2016 and 2017.
