Women's Soccer Defeats Villanova in OT, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA - Anna Salvucci's first career goal gave Drexel a thrilling 1-0 win in overtime against Villanova on Thursday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons, playing in their home opener, picked up their first win of the year and evened their record at 1-1.
Lauren Currey dribbled down the left side of the field and sent a cross towards the goal with her right foot. Salvucci, a transfer from UConn, received the pass inside of the six-yard box and put the ball past Villanova goalkeeper Megan McClay for the game-winner with a little more than two minutes to play in the first overtime period.
Drexel outshot the Wildcats (0-3), 18-8, although both teams had chances to win in regulation. Early in the second half Villanova had a chance off a header from in close, but Drexel goalkeeper Miyuki Schoyen made one of her three saves. Melissa Lyon and Curry each had scoring chances midway through the half. Lyon sent a shot just wide towards the far corner. Later in the half Curry broke in on the left side but McClay turned the shot aside. She made eight saves for the Wildcats.
The Dragons are scheduled to play at La Salle this weekend. The Dragons and Explorers meet at La Salle on Sunday at 7 p.m.
