PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel field hockey team opened Colonial Athletic Association play on Sunday with a 2-1 win against Hofstra at Buckley Field. First-year player Eline Di Leva continued to impress as the rookie scored both Drexel goals in the game. She now has three goals in her three collegiate games. It was the first Colonial Athletic Association game for both teams as the Dragons improved to 2-2.
The Dragons took the lead early in the fourth quarter. Di Leva scored her second goal of the game to break a 1-1 tie. Her shot went just inside the far post after a Drexel corner. Liz Chipman and Stephanie Oleykowski were credited with assists on the play.
The Pride (2-6) opened the scoring with less than four minutes to go in the first quarter. Cami Larsson had the goal for the visitor with assists going to both Djuna Slort and Frankie O'Brien. That proved to be the only goal the Drexel defense would allow. The Pride held on to that lead until midway through the third quarter. Di Leva scored an unassisted goal to even the game at 1-1. She sliced her way through the Hofstra defense and placed her shot just past the right pad of the Pride's goalkeeper.
Megan Hadfield played the entire game in goal for the Dragons and made two saves. Drexel outshot Hofstra, 10-5, and the Dragons had eight corners, while the Pride mustered just two.
Drexel will play at William & Mary on Thursday afternoon in Williamsburg.
