Dragons Place Seventh at Golden Horseshoe Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Drexel golf team placed seventh in the Golden Horseshoe Invitational held the last two days in Williamsburg. The Dragons shot their best round of the tournament, led by Connor Schmidt, who shot a one-over-par 71 on Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was played on the Golden Horseshoe Gold Course.
Schmidt finished the tournament tied for 19th overall. He finished at 219, which was nine-over par at the 6,799-yard par 70 Gold Course. Senior Alex Butler finished just one shot behind his teammate with a 72, and at 220. Angelo Giantsopoulos fired a 222 and Stephen Cerbara carded a 223. Cerbara had a 73 in the final round.
VCU and Old Dominion finished one-two in the event. The Rams were four strokes better than the Monarchs over the 54 holes of play. Jakob Henriksson of Old Dominion was the medalist. He was the only player to shoot under par (-5) and won by six strokes.
