HARRISONBURG, Va. - Drexel begins its quest for a Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Sunday night in Harrisonburg. The Dragons face the College of Charleston in the CAA Quarterfinals beginning at 9:30 p.m. The CAA Championships will be held at Atlantic Union Bank Center on the campus of James Madison University.
The Dragons enter the tournament as the sixth-seed after defeating JMU in the very building they will be playing in on Sunday. Drexel is used to playing on the road as the Dragons have only played five home games at the Daskalakis Athletic Center during the 2020-21 season. Drexel has won two of its last three coming into the CAA Championships. The Dragons split a road series at Hofstra before closing the year at JMU.
On Friday the CAA postseason awards were announced. Junior Camren Wynter was named First Team All-CAA. The point guard finished the regular season second in assists in the CAA. He lead the club in scoring and shoots better than 40 percent from long range. James Butler was also recognized by the CAA. The graduate student led the CAA in field-goal percentage and was third in the league in rebounding.
Drexel will face the College of Charleston for the third time this season. The Cougars won each of the first two meetings in South Carolina. Both games were tight contests as the Cougars rallied late for wins in both games. The Cougars are led by Zep Jasper, a Second Team All-CAA pick and one of the top defensive players in the CAA. Jasper averages 14.9 points per game for the College of Charleston.
The winner of Sunday's game will have another late night appearance, this time in the CAA Semifinals. The next opponent will be the winner of the Northeastern game against either UNCW or William & Mary. The Seahawks and Tribe play on Saturday and the winner gets the Huskies on Sunday.
