Golf Cruises to Victory at Don Benbow Invitational

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla - The Drexel golf team completed its southern trip with a convincing victory at the Don Benbow Invitational. The Dragons had by far their best round of the season and ran away from the field at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course. The Dragons finished Tuesday's round at one-over par and ended the event at 585 (+17).
Angelo Giantsopoulos picked up medalist honors. It was the first victory of the senior's career at Drexel. Alex Butler was right behind Giantsopoulos and finished in second. The senior shot one-under par on the day and finished the 36-hole event at 143 (+1). The Dragons had three student-athletes finish in the top five as fellow senior Jeffrey Cunningham tied Butler for the best round of the day for any competitor with a 71. He finished the event tied for fourth overall at six-over par.
Bank Apinyawuttikal, playing as an individual, tied for 11th overall with a 153 after finishing in three-over on Tuesday. Stephen Cerbara and Connor Schmidt tied for 16th overall.
Drexel finished the tournament 24 shots better than Butler. The Bulldogs were in second place, three shots better than Evansville. The Dragons are off until March 28 when they play in the Golden Horseshoe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
