Men's Varsity Eight Leads Drexel Against Gonzaga and Marietta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa - The Drexel men's rowing team put up a dominant performance on the Schuylkill River on Saturday morning, moving past both Gonzaga and Marietta in five total races.
Of Drexel's five shells competing, the Dragons varsity eight team and second varsity eight team both recorded two first place finishes against the Bulldogs and the Pioneers. The fastest finish of the day came from Drexel's Lois Krall II shell, which first posted a time of 5:54.2 against Gonzaga and then followed it up with a time of 6:00.5, outpacing Marietta by more than 10 seconds (6:12.6).
The Dragons grabbed a first place finish against Gonzaga's second varsity eight shell with a time of 5:50.5 and came close to sweeping the top two finishes over the Bulldogs before Drexel's B boat received a lane violation. Drexel made up for it against the Pioneers second varsity eight and third varsity eight teams, securing the top two slots in both races. The Dragons freshman team and second varsity eight team finished first and second respectively, crossing within a second of one another. Drexel's third varsity and fourth varsity shells rounded out a strong day in the final race, continuing the trend of first and second place finishes.
Drexel will compete again next weekend as they host the annual Kerr Cup Regatta on Saturday, Apr. 17.
