PHILADELPHIA – Behind a pair of first half goals from Delaney Lappin and Emma Goodrow, the Drexel women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory against Lehigh on Thursday night.
For a second straight game, Drexel pushed the attack early. Just more than five minutes in, the Dragons sent the ball in from the right side of the box. After a scramble, Lappin came away with the ball out of the mixer and sent it past the keeper for the first tally of the game.
After the Mountain Hawks responded in the 37th minute, DU wasted no time in retaking the lead as just 45 seconds later off another loose ball in the box, this time coming from the left side, Goodrow shot far post and slipped it past the outstretched arm of the Lehigh goalie for a 2-1 lead.
The Dragons continued to pressure in the second half as Drexel was able to hold the Mountain Hawks off any sustained attack, maintaining the lead throughout the remainder of the contest.
Overall, the Dragons held an 18-7 advantage in shots and took nine corners for the match.
Next up, Drexel travels to Lafayette for a non-conference contest on Sunday, August 29. Opening tap from Easton, Pa. is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
