EASTON Pa. – Four goals in a 27-minute span during the second half propelled the Drexel University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory against the Lafayette Leopards on Sunday in the first matchup between the teams since 2010.
Scoreless into the second half, the Dragons got on the board late in the 54th minute as on a free kick from beyond the top left corner of the box, Melissa Lyon cracked her first goal of the season, curling it past the diving keeper. 15 minutes later, Gabrielle Perrotto took possession off a turnover, dribbled ahead and drove a shot from 20 yards out into the top left corner, past the reach of the leaping Leopards' goalie, pushing Drexel up 2-0.
DU kept the offense going as in the 73rd minute, the Dragons won a corner that was taken by Klara Gorges. Her strike curled towards the net and crossed the line after sliding through the hands of the keeper.
The final tally came off a Lafayette goal kick as the Dragons won the 50-50, leading to a spectacular through ball from Delaney Lappin to Kailey Horton. Horton's initial shot was saved, but Lappin pounced on the rebound and drove it into the back of the net.
In goal, Miyuki Schoyen made three saves. Molly Piso came on in the 76th minute and stopped a pair of shots as the two combined for the clean sheet.
The Dragons are in action next on Thursday, September 2 when they host La Salle. Opening tap from Vidas Field is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
