Bearcats Secure Late Match Victory Over The Dragons

VESTAL, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the Dragons dropped a tough 25-13 loss to Binghamton for a split conference weekend. Drexel falls to a 2-5 overall record and 1-1 in EIWA competition.

The Dragons and the Bearcats kicked things off in the 141lb weight class with Ryan Anderson and Jared Donahue. BU got off to an early start with wins at 141lbs, 149lbs and 157lbs, but the Dragons answered back with a trio of victories of their own.

DU's veteran strength from 165lbs-174lbs proved evident against the Bearcats as Parker Kropman, Evan Barczak and Mickey O'Malley swung the score in Drexel's favor at the halfway point in the match. Kropman and Barczak brought home two hard-fought decision victories to tie the match at six. O'Malley broke things open with a dominant 10-0 shutout at 174lbs, giving DU a 10-6 advantage.

Josh Stillings battled through three periods, coming close to giving Drexel their fourth straight win, but came up just short in a 1-0 decision against Binghamton's Cory Day.

BU picked up late momentum with three straight wins at 184lbs, 197lbs, and 285lbs, allowing the Bearcats to take a 19-10 lead with two matches to follow. Kyle Waterman added three points to the board with his second victory of the weekend; however, not enough to swing the momentum for the Dragons.

Drexel will have a quick turnaround between matches as they are scheduled for several extra countable matches against Penn on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
