
No. 7 Women's Squash Topples No. 6 Virginia

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 7 Drexel University women's squash team showed good resolve in downing the No. 6 Virginia Cavaliers 7-2 on Saturday afternoon, winning a trio of five-game matches along the way.
It is the highest ranked opponent the Dragons have beaten since taking down No. 5 Penn in the Howe Cup on February 23, 2020.
The top of the ladder was able to prevail with relative ease as Karina Tyma, Margot Prow, and Sanya Vats all won in three or four games. Tyma defeated Maria Moya 12-10, 11-8, 11-6 at number one. Prow took an 11-4, 7-11 11-3, 11-8 win against Emma Jinks in the second spot, which was the eventual clinching point. Vats downed Sydney Maxwell 11-9, 11-5, 11-6 at number four.
It was the middle of the ladder where DU showed it mettle, picking up five-game wins at numbers five, six, and seven, with all of the victories coming from behind. Brooke Herring battled back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Maureen Foley 5-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 in the fifth spot. At number six, Ciara Richards beat Caroline Baldwin 11-5, 11-13, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6 and in the seventh position, Dina Rosli topped Amanda Haywood 9-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4, 11-1.
Also picking up a win for Drexel was Lydia Robinson who earned an 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9 victory at number eight.
The Dragons are in action next at the Mid Atlantic Squash Championships, February 5-6 in Lancaster, Pa.
